Press Calculate, then move the sliders.

Promotional financing such as "no interest if paid in full in 12 months" is often deferred interest, not 0% APR: if the balance isn't cleared by the deadline, interest from day one can be added. Ask for the regular APR, the promotion end date and the payment needed to clear it in time.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the project cost, or the low and high end of a range.
  2. Enter your down payment and the APR and term from a real offer.
  3. Move the sliders to compare terms. Watch total interest, not just the payment.
  4. Ask the lender for the regular APR and the payoff date for any promotion.

Frequently asked questions

How is the monthly payment calculated?

With the standard installment formula: loan amount × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−n), where r is the APR divided by 12 and n is the number of months. At 0% APR it is the loan amount divided by the months.

Is "no interest if paid in full" the same as 0% APR?

No. Deferred-interest promotions can charge all the interest back to the start if the balance is not paid off by the deadline. Read the lender’s disclosures.

Where does the APR come from?

From you. Enter the rate from an actual offer. We do not supply or recommend rates, and this is not a loan offer.
