Datasets

City of Detroit building permits (BSEED export)

47,275 records, 37 columns, issued 2019-01-02 to 2026-09-26. Used for: provisional permit-activity counts. Cannot support: installed prices, contract values, cost per square foot (no roof-area field), or claims about individual properties. Research page. The exact download URL and date of the export still need to be recorded.

Lucas County / Toledo legacy permit export (2000–2015)

93,117 records taken from an older internal app. The original Excel source files are not included, and the file has no cost fields. Used for: historical activity context only.

Pricing research library (owner-compiled, 2020–2026)

295 rows of published cost guides, contractor articles, code and licensing notes, insurance statistics and other research, each with its original figures and links. Used for: background reading and deciding what to research next. Not used for: any calculator number. The rows mix years, places, roof types and scopes, so we do not average them. 44 rows are placeholders marked "no source found".

Residential planning allowance (owner setting)

Ohio and Michigan rows for residential replacement: $500–$1,000 per square for architectural shingles; $1,000–$1,800 per square for standing-seam metal; $500–$1,200 per square for exposed-fastener metal; $500–$1,000 per square for flat or low-slope roofs (EPDM or TPO). This is an editorial budgeting setting, not a data source. Methodology.
